The power of truth coupled with God’s unlimited grace restores our souls
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
In this passage John explains to us that God became a man in the person of His Son. This is the most amazing gift God ever gave to man. God himself came to live among us.
John tells us that Jesus came with a purpose. He came so that His glory could be seen here on earth and to bring us grace and truth.
These two virtues from God, that man so desperately needs, God gave us in sending us His Son to earth. We need God to reveal His grace and truth to us. These two virtues work together in the salvation of our souls.
It is these two powerful forces that set us free and restore us to be the people God planned for us to be. We need every day for these two blessing to come down to us from heaven so that our souls can be truly free. They come to us from God’s Son, through His sacrificial death and resurrection, to bring us life and to give us power to live a life pleasing to God.
So much of what we hear in this world is leading us astray into darkness and confusion. But as we turn to Jesus we find the truth. He himself said “I am the way the truth and the life” (John 14:6).
The truth never comes alone. It is always joined to the grace of God. Truth calls us daily out of the darkness and deception of this world and grace liberates us and gives us power to leave the darkness and enter more fully into the light. As we daily open our hearts, grace is added to grace—one blessing from God added to another. The power of truth coupled with God’s unlimited grace restores our souls. Out of a heart of thanksgiving, we can now honor God, through the new life He has given us.
John tells us that God’s truth and grace that are found in His Son are without limit. As we daily read God’s word and open our hearts to the Spirit of grace we find an never ending fountain of blessing that gives us an eternal hope that sustains us in this fallen world.
Let us live in the grace and truth that God has given us in His Son!
