The Word of God is the only unwavering, unchangeable principle in the universe
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”
In Matthew 24, Jesus tells about the passing of history and the tribulation of world events that will lead up to His second coming. He also speaks about the difficulties His followers will face in this fallen world. They must be prepared to be confronted with persecution and lying false prophets.
Jesus left this world, when after His resurrection, He ascended into heaven. He promised His disciples that He would come again to earth. His second coming will be in power—a glorious event as He comes on the clouds of heaven.
Jesus says in the future, at the time of His return, all will be changed. The sinful fallen world as we now know it, will pass away. Since this is true, the question now comes: “Is there anything in this world that will remain unchanged?” “Is there any sure foundation to stand on that will keep us during the trials of life?”
Jesus tells His disciples that the Word of God is the only unwavering, unchangeable principle in the universe. Heaven and the earth itself will pass away, but God’s eternal Word will remain steadfast forever.
This is a powerful reminder to each one of us, as followers of Christ, of the necessity of basing our lives on that which is eternal. God’s Word is a sure foothold. We can build our lives on the Word of God because it is everlasting. The promises of God are very sure. God will keep His word. What is written will come to past. Every other foundation will be removed, but the statutes of the Lord will remain forever.
When the storms of life come—and they come to every life—the foundations of our life will hold strong. Our lives remain strong when they are built on the precepts of God.
The Word of God is a powerful force that brings great assurance in our souls. Therefore, we live without fear. The Word of God will never fail us. The promises of God will keep us and bring us into His eternal Kingdom.
Pray: Heavenly Father I thank you for your powerful Word. Help me to build my life on your eternal precepts. Let your Word find a deep place in my soul so that I can remain firm in faith during the trials of life. Help me to learn to trust in your eternal promises until the time of your promised return. Amen.
