We do not live the Christian life alone

Acts 2:42

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

We do not live the Christian life in isolation.  We cannot serve God alone.  The fire of God within us will go out if we attempt to obey God without the support of others.

When we place our personal trust in Christ, and receive the forgiveness of our sins, we enter into a new family.  We enter into the family of God.

We are born into a family when we come forth from our mother’s womb.  We enter into a new spiritual family, joining others who follow Christ, when we are born again by the Holy Spirit.

Though our new family has not yet reached perfection, together we continue down the path of maturity in Christ. It is the place where we find fellowship.  It is in sharing life with fellow followers of Christ that we grow in grace.  It is a fellowship of grace where faith is strengthened.

The new believers devoted themselves to fellowship.  They made it a priority to be with fellow disciples in order to give and receive encouragement in following the Savior.  Spiritual gifts were in operation with the purpose of building each other up in faith, hope and love.

These early believers wanted to be together.  The enjoyed the unity they had through the Holy Spirit.   Their fellowship was a testimony to the transforming power of the gospel of grace.  Their life together was a means of being salt and light in their community.

Today we too need fellowship.  We must devote ourselves to the new family that God has placed us into, knowing that fellowship is vital to our spiritual lives.  It is the place where the love of God is shared and where it grows.

It is in the fellowship of grace, the place where we give and receive, that we seek to bless others in their walk with God.  We look to bring edification and encouragement to our fellow followers of Christ and thereby glorify our Redeemer.

Pray: Heavenly father, I thank you for forgiving me and bringing me into the family of God.  Help me to devote myself to fellowship knowing that this is your purpose for my life and the place where your grace and power is revealed.  Use my life to be a blessing to my brothers and sisters in Christ. Amen
