Joshua 1:1-9

Now it came about after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ servant, saying, “Moses My servant is dead; now therefore arise, cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel. Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses. From the wilderness and this Lebanon, even as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and as far as the Great Sea toward the setting of the sun will be your territory. No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous, for you shall give this people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Moses, the great leader of Israel, who honored God, has now passed away and has gone to be with his Creator and Lord. It is now up to Joshua, Moses’ apprentice, to carry on the plan of God and bring the children of Israel into the Land of Promise.

God has given Him the promise that the land before them will become theirs as they step out in faith, and see God fulfill His word. God will be with them, and will protect them, giving them victory. He will be at their sides, and He will fight their battles, and give them the land.

But the victories ahead that God has promised will take God-honoring faith. They will need to be committed to the task. They must seek to honor God as they step forward, not turning to the right or left, but focusing their minds and hearts on the promises of God. The Word of God must be central, always being careful to obey it. This will lead to great success.

They must be strong and courageous, knowing that God is with them. As they walk by faith, and not by sight their lives will honor Him. God’s Kingdom will be established on earth and His will be done on earth as it is done in heaven.

As followers of Christ today, we are called upon to bring honor to Him.  God has given us many great and precious promises. We too must daily step out in faith, being strong in the Lord, letting Him fill our hearts with courage.

We must not doubt. Rather, we must live boldly, knowing that He will not fail us, and He will not abandon us. We will honor Him, as fear is abandoned, and as we allow God to make us courageous and strong.

As we walk in faith, standing on the promises of God, our lives bring honor to Him. The victories that are ours, through the courage He gives us, glorifies Him. Our lives show forth the faithfulness of God, and the truth that God’s Word never fails.

So, let us be strong and courageous, and thereby honor Him!

Let us be full of faith so that our lives might exalt His name!

Pray: Lord teach me to walk by faith and not by sight so that my life might honor you. Fill my heart with courage and strength. Teach me to stand upon your eternal promises. Keep me from turning to the right or the left, focusing always on the advancement of your Kingdom here on earth. Thank you that you have promised to be with me in the battle. Give me success that brings you honor. Bring me many victories, and thereby glorify your name. Amen
